Landed earl beats Roman in rich list
“A North Lincolnshire landowner who died more than 500 years ago, would be worth more than Chelsea’s Russian owner Roman Abramovich, if he were alive today. Richard de Beauchamp, the 13th Earl of Warwick, was said to be worth £3.3-million when he died in 1439 at the age of 57 – making him one of the top 10 richest people in the history of Britain, according to a new book. Philip Beresford and William D Rubinstein, the co-authors of The Richest of the Rich, have estimated the Earl’s wealth to be worth around £34-billion in today’s terms.”
