Opportunity Dubai – A book review by Darren Atwater

Opportunity Dubai
By Peter Cooper

A book review by Darren Atwater of ShareCrazy.com

Everyone knows that Dubai is over. We have heard about expats in the Emirate losing their jobs and being arrested for not paying their debts. Others, more fleet of foot, drive their BMWs to the airport and leave their keys in the car with a goodbye note to the lender as they escape to the safety of their parent’s couch.

Peter Cooper is not everyone. A former EMAP publishing executive who was fired in spectacular fashion in 1999, Cooper found himself in Dubai with vague plans to reinvent himself as entrepreneur and to make his fortune in the desert city. Opportunity Dubai: Making a fortune in the Middle East is the very informative – and very fun – story of this adventure.

Opportunity Dubai: Making a fortune in the Middle East was published almost moments before the financial world went for a mental- health break but on his website, Cooper is still bullish on Dubai. This book is required reading anyone who is thinking of working in the city or making the leap and setting up a business. The frontier still exists.

If Dubai really does inerest you, the editor of t1ps.com is there right now and his detailed thoughts on the emirate will be published on www.t1ps.com on Monday. At Master Investor on 25th April this year Tom will debate with Richard Poulden the issue of whether Britain or Dubai is closer to Iceland. Peter Cooper would no doubt argue that the answer is Britain. This book explains why.
