Toby shows the weird ways to make cash

A former Montsaye School pupil wo is now a financial whizz has written a quirky book about unusual ways to make money.

Toby Walne, who was born in Draughton and attended Montsaye in Rothwell, has published his first book called ‘101 Extraordinary Investments’. It is an exploration of curious ways to make money and was inspired by Toby’s interest in the great adventurers of the Victorian era, who hunted for everything from orchids to shrunken heads.

Toby, 42, who started his career as an Evening Telegraph reporter in Corby in the 1990’s, is now a Mail on Sunday journalist specialising in alternative investments. He said: “I’m really inspired by the great Victorian investors. There were a fascinating bunch.”

His book looks at collectables likely to rise in value and ranges from superhero comics, toy robots and magic tricks, to cigars, celebrity hair, feudal titles and pedigree pigs; plus a look fresh look at classic investments such as wine, stamps and cigarette cards.
