When a small business is started, it can sink or swim on the availability of capital. The money that you need behind you in order to get a project off the ground can be critical in its success. You might be lucky in that your idea either requires no initial investment, or that people are falling over themselves to throw cash at you. Popularised by the TV series ?Dragons Den?, the idea of pitching for business is one that most people can understand. However, the idea of pitching to a Peter Jones or a Duncan Bannatyne ignores the reality that you need to do your homework well if you are going to attract cash into your venture.
Laura Rigney has written a book, called ?Pitching For Small Business? that hopes to solve these problems for you. Published by Brightword Publishing, this looks at all of the things you need to do in order to successfully pitch an idea to an investor. With three main sections looking at preparation, meeting buyers and what to do after the pitch, this ebook is so much more than the title.
The best description I can come up with to describe this book is a business book that is slanted towards the early beginnings of a venture ? there are comments and examples about pricing products, how you are going to ship and how to brand your whole exposure to the market.
As is the case with all business dealings knowledge is key, and here is no different. To tip the balance in your favour with any investor you need to know as much as you possibly can about the financials of your product. This will enable you to create the best deal, and will allow you to haggle more effectively.
Once the deal is done, there is a section that describes how to develop your business now that you?ve got a steady income and a stable system in place. This is an ebook that will help you immensely in pitching to an investor, but it will also help you build on the initial efforts that you?ve made.
