Banish ego to win

Banish Ego to Win
By Tim Henning

Dragon’s Den and Apprentice wannabes need to put a pin in their egos to be successful in business, says the author of a new book for entrepreneurs.

Ken Horn, 49, has worked with start ups for a decade and claims to have helped 6,000 set up in business,

The Glaswegian, whose book is called Everyday Entrepreneurs, said “There is a huge disconnect between the high-octane egos and the real-life entrepreneur community who want to start traditional businesses in conventional or emerging markets.”

Ken’s top tips for budding entrepreneurs are:

1. Don’t let the admin distract you. Make sure you concentrate on customers and trade

2. Be careful with online advice. Try to find a mentor instead

3. Remember the three business building blocks – what am I offering? Who am I offering it to? How and I going to broadcast one to the other?

4. Promoting business is a combination of lots of word of mouth, social media, Press and posters.

5. Regularly review your offer. The market moves and changes so remain agile.
