Robbie Burns took charge of his financial destiny and traded his way to over £3 million in the stock markets. His bestselling Naked Trader books have equipped thousands to follow in his footsteps, junking jargon and laying bare how anyone can make money in shares. We sat down with Robbie to discuss his new book The Naked Trader’s Book of Trading Strategies, his best and worst best investments of all time and his five fantasy dinner guests.
What is the key takeaway from your new book The Naked Trader’s Book of Trading Strategies?
Have a plan and stick to it. Decide what you want from a trade, timescale, profit and most importantly, at what price will you quit if it starts to go down.
Who will benefit from this book the most?
People who have done some investing or trading but are perhaps stuck in a rut and have run out of ideas, or those who are struggling to make a profit.
How does The Naked Trader’s Book of Trading Strategies differ from your previous books?
It’s a concentrated collection of ideas rather than starting the process from scratch. It expects you have made some trades so it’s all about ideas that will help you win.
What is the best financial advice you have ever received?
You can’t win money betting on horses.
What’s your best investment of all time, and your worst?
The best is probably the first house I bought for £24,000. The worst was buying shares in Coffee Republic. I bought because I liked the coffee, not the best plan.
Name five fantasy guests you would invite to your book launch if you could, and why?
Larry David (Comedy), Warren Buffett (sage financial advice), Wet Leg (great live music), Fatboy Slim (DJ) and Gordon Ramsay (food and swearing).
